SIU Discontinues Investigation into Firearm Discharges by Police at Vehicle in Brampton
- Le 16 septembre 2019, vers 2 h 30 du matin, la Police régionale de Peel a été avisée de coups de feu tirés sur l’accotement de l’autoroute 410, entre Bovaird Drive East et Sandalwood Parkway East.
- À leur arrivée sur les lieux, les agents ont vu un homme qui avait été blessé par balle.
- Les agents ont également repéré et tenté de bloquer un VUS Audi qui était arrêté à proximité d’une dépanneuse.
- L’Audi a fait marche arrière et lorsqu’il a commencé à prendre la fuite, l’un des agents a fait feu à plusieurs reprises dans sa direction.
- L’Audi abandonné a été retrouvé dans les environs de Checkerberry Crescent et de Geddes Lane.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
