SIU Lays Charge Against London Police Officer in Relation to Death of Woman

Mississauga (Ontario) (19 November, 2019) ---
Conformément à la politique de l’UES relative à la divulgation de l’identité qui exige le consentement du plus proche parent, l’Unité rend public le nom de la femme décédée à London le 13 novembre 2019. La défunte a été identifiée comme étant Amanda Bolt, 28 ans, de London.

Dans l’après-midi du 2 novembre 2019, des agents du Service de police de London ont arrêté Mme Bolt et l’ont amenée au poste de police où elle a été placée dans une cellule. Le lendemain matin, Mme Bolt a été découverte en détresse médicale dans sa cellule. Les premiers soins lui ont été administrés et on l’a conduite à l’hôpital. Dans l’après-midi du 13 novembre 2019, Mme Bolt est décédée à l’hôpital. 

L’UES poursuit son enquête sur cet incident. L’UES exhorte toute personne qui pourrait avoir des renseignements pertinents pour cette enquête à communiquer avec l’enquêteur principal au 1 800 787-8529.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
