SIU Terminates Investigation into Collision between Taxi and Police Cruiser in Brampton
Le directeur de l’Unité des enquêtes spéciales, Tony Loparco, a mis fin à une enquête sur une collision survenue en septembre 2017 entre un véhicule de la Police régionale de Peel (PRP) et un taxi, à Brampton.
Le 20 septembre 2017, vers 14 h, un véhicule de la PRP a été impliqué dans une collision avec un taxi dans le secteur de Bramalea Road et de Bovaird Drive East. Un passager du taxi – un homme de 30 ans – a été conduit à l’hôpital pour y être recevoir des soins.
Le directeur Loparco a déclaré : « Les examens médicaux ont confirmé que l’homme n’a pas subi de blessure grave. Nous avons donc mis fin à cette enquête. »
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
