Police Officer Conducted Himself Judiciously; No Charges to Issue in Relation to Woman’s Fatal Jump from Toronto Apartment Balcony
- Le 20 mai 2018, vers 17 h, le 9-1-1 a reçu un appel concernant une femme en situation de détresse. En réponse à cet appel, des agents de police, des pompiers et des ambulanciers paramédicaux se sont rendus dans un immeuble d'appartements dans le secteur de l'avenue Steeles Ouest et de la rue Yonge.
- Alors que les policiers attendaient pour entrer dans un appartement, une femme qui était l’intérieur a fait une chute jusqu’au sol en dessous.
- Le décès de la femme a été prononcé sur les lieux.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
