SIU Terminates Investigation into Man’s Arrest in Windsor; No Serious Injury

The Acting Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has terminated an investigation into the arrest of a 19-year-old man last month. 

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on July 3, 2018, Windsor Police Service officers attended a residence on Partington Street regarding a domestic matter. The man was arrested and taken to the police station. While in custody, he complained of pain in his right jaw and was taken to hosptial for examination.  

Acting Director Martino said, “The medical evidence establishes that the man did not sustain a serious injury. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
  • report the results of investigations to the Attorney General.
