Arrestation d’un homme à l’Université York : aucune accusation à porter

No Charges to Issue in Relation to Man’s Arrest at York University
Le 17 juillet 2017, des agents du Service de police de Toronto se sont rendus sur le campus de l’Université York pour arrêter un homme de 33 ans dont la présence à cet endroit était interdite par une ordonnance de libération conditionnelle et qui était aussi recherché en vertu d’un mandat d’arrestation pour avoir omis de comparaître devant le tribunal. Le directeur de l’Unité des enquêtes spéciales, Tony Loparco, a conclu qu’il n’y avait aucun motif raisonnable de déposer des accusations criminelles contre un agent du SPT relativement à l’arrestation de cet homme.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
