SIU Looking for Witnesses to Oshawa Collision

At approximately 5:20 p.m. on June 20, 2005, a marked DRPS cruiser collided with a white Kia Magentis car at the intersection of Ritson Road North and Rossland Road East in Oshawa. The driver of the Kia Magentis, a 76-year-old Oshawa woman, suffered a serious neck injury as a result of the collision.
The SIU is probing the actions of the involved police officer.
SIU investigators believe that a young man may have witnessed the collision and are interested in speaking with him. As well, the injured woman used a man's cell phone to make a call from the scene and the SIU is interested in speaking with this man. The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
- report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
