SIU Terminates Investigation into Injury Sustained by Man during Arrest in Hamilton

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco, has terminated an investigation into an interaction between Hamilton Police Service officers and a 24-year-old man in June of 2017.

Shortly after midnight on June 24, 2017, police officers were dispatched to the area of King Street West and Bay Street North in relation to an assault which had taken place at a restaurant. A man of interest was located a short distance away, and as a result of an interaction with officers, the man fell forward and struck his face on a wall. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
  
Director Loparco said, “The man did not sustain a serious injury, and as such, this investigation has been terminated.”

  • de déterminer si un policier a commis un acte criminel lié à l’incident faisant l’objet de l’enquête;
  • compte tenu des éléments de preuve, de déposer une accusation au criminel contre le policier, le cas échéant, ou de fermer le dossier sans déposer un chef d’accusation;
  • de faire rapport des résultats de toute enquête au procureur général.
