No Charges Issued Against Chatham-Kent Police Service Officer in Relation to Man’s Arrest for Trespassing

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco, has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer in relation to the serious injury sustained by a 39-year-old man during his arrest in December of 2016. Prior to his arrest, the man had attempted to steal approximately $1400 in merchandise from a local department store, and was later discovered in the backyard of a residence.

The Director’s Report was delivered to the Attorney General, as is required by law under the Police Services Act. The Attorney General has directed that the document be posted online.

  • compte tenu des éléments de preuve, de déposer une accusation au criminel contre l'agent, s'il y a lieu, ou de fermer le dossier sans déposer un chef d'accusation;
  • de faire rapport des résultats des enquêtes au procureur général.
