Mississauga, ON (25 juillet 2018) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the serious injuries sustained by four individuals yesterday who were involved in a collision in Bradford.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 24, 2018, South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS) officers began to investigate an incident that occurred at the Tanger Outlets in Cookstown.
  • In the area of 10 Sideroad and 14 Line, a SSPS officer located a vehicle of interest, and began to follow it southbound on 10 Sideroad.
  • The vehicle proceeded to go westbound on Highway 88. Just east of Highway 400, the vehicle became involved in a collision with a pickup truck traveling eastbound.
  • The 32-year-old driver of the vehicle of interest, and his 31-year-old and 38-year-old male passengers, were transported to hospital for treatment. The 54-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was also taken to hospital. All four remain in hospital in serious but stable condition. 

Four investigators, three forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this incident. At this time, one subject officer and one witness officer have been designated.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

L'UES est un organisme gouvernemental indépendant qui enquête sur la conduite d'agents (agents de police, agents spéciaux de la Commission des parcs du Niagara et agents de la paix du Service de sécurité de l'Assemblée législative) qui pourrait avoir entraîné un décès, une blessure grave, une agression sexuelle ou la décharge d'une arme à feu contre une personne. Toutes les enquêtes sont menées par des enquêteurs de l'UES qui sont des civils. En vertu de la Loi sur l'Unité des enquêtes spéciales, le directeur de l'UES doit :

  • considérer si un agent a commis une infraction criminelle en lien avec l'incident faisant l'objet de l'enquête;
  • selon le dossier de preuve, faire porter une accusation criminelle contre l'agent, s'il existe des motifs de le faire, ou clôre le dossier sans faire porter d'accusations;
  • rendre compte publiquement des résultats de ses enquêtes.
