Former Chatham-Kent Police Service Officer Charged

Numéro du dossier: 18-OSA-090

Mississauga, ON (27 novembre 2018) ---
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Tony Loparco, has reasonable grounds to believe that a former police officer with Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) committed criminal offences in relation to an incident that reportedly occurred in November of 2014.

The SIU was contacted by CKPS on March 28, 2018 regarding a complaint - made by a woman - of a sexual nature against the man when he was an active officer.

As a result of the SIU investigation, Mr. Kenneth Miller is facing the following charges under the Criminal Code:
  • One count of sexual assault, contrary to s. 271; and
  • One count of breach of trust by public officer, contrary to s. 122.

Mr. Miller was arrested by members of the SIU, and later released on several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the complainant. He is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 425 Grand Avenue West in Chatham on December 11, 2018.

The matter is now properly before the courts. In consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation.

  • compte tenu des éléments de preuve, de déposer une accusation au criminel contre le policier, le cas échéant, ou de fermer le dossier sans déposer un chef d’accusation;
  • de faire rapport des résultats de toute enquête au procureur général.
