SIU Investigating Police-Involved Shooting in Pelham

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding an interaction that occurred today between two Niagara Regional Police Service officers in Pelham.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On November 29, 2018, Niagara Regional Police Service officers were in the area of Effingham Street and Roland Road to investigate a collision that had occurred days prior. 
  • Around noon, two of the officers became involved in an altercation. A firearm was discharged and one of the officers was struck.
  • The 52-year-old officer was transported to hospital by ambulance, and then airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

At this time, eight investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the investigation.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

  • de faire rapport des résultats de toute enquête au procureur général.
