The province’s Special Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the shooting injuries sustained by a Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officer yesterday in Pelham.
The SIU can confirm that on November 29, 2018, Niagara Regional Police Service officers were in the area of Effingham Street and Roland Road to investigate a collision that had occurred days prior. Around noon, two of the officers became involved in an altercation. One officer discharged his firearm multiple times, and the other officer was struck. The officer who was struck was transported to hospital where he is in stable condition.
At this time, one subject officer has been designated. The officer who was struck, as well as 12 other officers, have been designated as witness officers. As per the Unit’s policy, the identities of police officers who have been designated cannot be disclosed during the course of an SIU investigation.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
