SIU Terminates Toronto Investigation

Numéro du dossier: 18-TCI-111

Mississauga, ON (25 février 2019) ---
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco, has terminated an investigation into an April 2018 interaction that occurred between Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers and a 38-year-old man.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 9, 2018, TPS officers arrived at the Seaton House to deal with a man who had been acting violently with personnel. The man left the shelter with the police officers, and as a precautionary measure, he was taken to hospital for a medical assessment. Upon arrival at hospital, the man became agitated and violent. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the police station. While at the police station, the man assaulted two police officers. When the man complained of left hand pain, he was taken to hospital again.

Director Loparco said, “There is an absence of evidence that any police conduct caused the man’s injury. As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
