SIU Investigating Man’s Fatal Fall From 14th Floor of Toronto Apartment Building

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 61-year-old man yesterday in Toronto.
 
Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday May 9, 2019, Toronto Police Service officers responded to an apartment building in the area of Yonge Street and Gerrard Street for a man in distress.
  • Officers went to an apartment unit on the 14th floor and knocked.  
  • A short time later, a man fell from the apartment unit’s balcony to the ground below.
  • The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to this incident. The post-mortem is taking place this morning in Toronto.
 
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
