SIU Investigating Discharge of Firearm by Police Officer in Mississauga

Numéro du dossier: 19-OFI-192

Mississauga, ON (13 août 2019) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting that occurred today in Mississauga.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 2:45 p.m. on August 13, 2019, officers with Peel Regional Police were dispatched to a residence in the area of White Clover Way and Mavis Road for a weapons-related call.
  • Officers witnessed an interaction between a woman and a 29-year-old man, and then the man fled on foot.
  • On Sandford Farm Drive, the man entered an unoccupied police cruiser. As he drove away, a police officer discharged his firearm at the cruiser.
  • The man abandoned the cruiser on Idlewilde Crescent, stole a civilian vehicle and fled the scene.

While the man has not yet been located, evidence in the cruiser indicates the man may have sustained an injury.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
