Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On the evening of May 26, 2025, Toronto Police Service officers were following a reported stolen vehicle.
  • At approximately 6 p.m. on Needle Firway, the officers stopped the vehicle and ordered two male occupants to exit the vehicle.
  • At some point, one officer discharged his firearm.
  • The men were arrested.

No one was struck by the firearm discharge, and no serious injuries were suffered in the course of the arrest. As per the Special Investigations Unit Act, The SIU’s mandate was invoked because of a firearm being discharged.
