SIU Concludes Investigation into Brampton Arrest

Case Number: 25-OCI-129

Mississauga, ON (1 August, 2025) ---
In the early morning of April 5, 2025, a citizen reported a suspected impaired driver operating a vehicle in the area of Queen Street East and Chrysler Drive in Brampton. Peel Regional Police officers located the vehicle stopped in a nearby parking lot. Officers surrounded the vehicle with their cruisers, exited, and observed the driver slumped in the driver’s seat. The 26-year-old male driver woke up, but refused to exit the Tesla at the officers’ request and physically resisted their efforts to pull him from the car. He held onto the steering wheel tightly and attempted to put the Tesla in motion. With the assistance of several officers, the man was eventually extricated from the vehicle and arrested. At hospital, he was diagnosed with a fractured left finger. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
