SIU Investigating Collision in Toronto

Mississauga, ON (21 September, 2025) ---
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a collision in Toronto that resulted in the serious injury of a 14-year-old male driver early this morning.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • Just before 1 a.m. on September 21, 2025, a Toronto Police Service officer in a marked cruiser pursued a driver for speeding. There was a collision involving the driver and another vehicle at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Kingston Road in Scarborough.
  • The male driver was taken to hospital where he is being treated for a serious injury.
  • There were three occupants in the other vehicle, none of whom were seriously injured.
Three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
