SIU Investigating Death of Man in Mississauga

Mississauga, ON (14 November, 2025) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-year-old man on Wednesday in Mississauga. The SIU was notified and invoked its mandate because an officer was on scene at the time.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On Wednesday, Peel Regional Police were contacted about a man in distress who was going to Square One Shopping Centre.
  • At approximately 2:20 p.m.., an officer located the man in the mall’s parking garage.  A short time later, the man fell from the parking garage to the ground below. First aid was provided, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The post-mortem was completed on Thursday. One subject official has been designated at this time.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
