SIU Appealing for Witnesses to Weekend Collision in Hamilton

Mississauga, ON (4 March, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is appealing for witnesses to collision in Hamilton that occurred this weekend. 

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 2:30 a.m. on February 28, 2026, two Hamilton Police Service officers were in a cruiser in the area of Centennial Parkway North and Delawana Drive when they observed two vehicles travelling northbound on Centennial Parkway at a high rate of speed.
  • One of the two vehicles fled the area. The officers commenced following the other vehicle, a Kia Rio.
  • Approaching the intersection of Centennial Parkway and South Service Road, the Rio became involved in a collision with multiple vehicles.
  • A 15-year-old passenger who was in the Rio was transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
