SIU Concludes Investigation into Man’s Broken Nose in Brampton Arrest

Case Number: 26-OCI-122

Mississauga, ON (10 July, 2026) ---
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe a Peel Regional Police officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the fractured nose suffered by a 31-year-old man during his arrest in Brampton. On March 17, 2026, officers arrested the man for being in possession of a stolen Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot of a plaza at 1785 Queen Street East. The man gripped the steering while the officer tried to remove him from the vehicle. After several punches, he was removed and taken to the ground, where he continued to resist and was punched again then handcuffed.

Director Martino found the quantum of force used by the officer would appear commensurate with the exigencies of the situation given the man’s resistance and the need to quickly take him into custody.
