SIU Concludes Investigation of Huron County Vehicle Injuries
Mississauga (26 March, 2014) --- Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the vehicle injuries sustained by an 18-year-old woman early Wednesday morning in Huron County East.
Preliminary information indicates the following:
• On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at approximately 2:15 a.m. an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police attempted to stop a vehicle.
• The driver did not stop and later, while travelling on Division Line in Huron County East, collided into a snow bank and rolled over.
• The driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to Seaforth Community Hospital and then transferred to Victoria Hospital in London for treatment.
The SIU has assigned three investigators, one forensic investigator to probe the circumstances of this incident.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
