SIU Continues Investigation into Shooting in Kitchener

The WRPS advised the SIU that at 9:38 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007, two uniformed officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the Shopper's Drug Mart on Ottawa St. South. When the officers arrived they confronted a male leaving the store. One of the officers discharged their service pistol once and the male received a gunshot wound.
EMS responded to the scene and the male was taken to Grand River Hospital by ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. The man has been identified as Trevor Colin Graham, 26-years-old, of Kitchener.
The SIU has assigned five field investigators and three forensic identification technicians to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
One officer has been designated as a subject officer and four officers have been designated as witness officers.
The Shoppers Drug Mart was open at the time of this occurrence and the SIU is appealing for anyone who was in the store or anyone who was outside in the plaza parking lot at 9:30 p.m. onwards to contact the Lead Investigator at 416-622-1935 or 1-800-787-8529 extension #1935.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
