The SIU was notified that at about 3:40 a.m. on July 13, 2007 an OPP officer with the Oxford Detachment was attempting to stop a GMC pickup truck in Tillsonburg. The truck did not stop, and continued west on Brownsville Rd. to Dereham Line, where it crashed into an earth embankment. There were three occupants in the truck, one of whom sustained a serious injury. The 40-year-old man was treated at Tillsonburg Hospital and has been released.
SIU forensic identification technicians and a collision reconstructionist are processing the scene of the collision today. Investigators have interviewed civilian witnesses and will be conducting a canvass for additional witnesses later today. The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact the lead investigator at 416-622-1965 or 1-800-787-8529 x. 1965.

All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
