IU Concludes Investigation into Fatal Shooting in Toronto
SIU Updates Toronto Shooting Incident
The SIU was notified that TPS officers were dispatched to the area of the Davisville subway station to investigate reports of a robbery. Two uniformed officers located a 28-year-old man in Oriole Park. A confrontation ensued between the man and the officers, resulting in the man being shot. He was taken to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Six SIU investigators and four SIU forensic investigators have been assigned to independently probe the nature and extent of TPS involvement in the man's death. Investigators have designated two TPS officers as subject officers and six as witness officers. Items of evidentiary interest have been seized by the SIU and interviews with witnesses are ongoing.
A post mortem examination will take place on Monday, February 18, 2008. As the deceased's next of kin have not yet been notified, the SIU will not be releasing his identity at this time.
SIU investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact the Unit at 416-622-1957 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 1957.

All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
