SIU Investigating After Woman Struck by Peel Police Cruiser in Brampton
No Charges to Issue against Officer in Connection with Brampton Collision

Mississauga, ON (16 May, 2024) ---
Please be advised that the Director’s Report for 24-OVI-014, originally published on May 10, has been amended to correct a typographical error.

More specifically, the third paragraph of the Analysis and Decision has been changed from: "There is some evidence that Complainant #2 had crossed the street before she ran back into the roadway and was struck by the cruiser…” to “There is some evidence that Complainant #1 had crossed the street before she ran back into the roadway …”

The SIU regrets the error. Please be advised this only applies to the English version of the Director’s Report.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
