Investigation Completed into Elderly Woman’s Injuries in Cruiser Collision in London
Case Number: 25-OVI-238
The Special Investigations Unit found no reasonable grounds to believe a London Police Service officer committed a criminal offence in connection with a collision with a bus that seriously injured a 71-year-old woman. On June 11, 2025, the woman was thrown her from her seat onto the floor of the bus in the collision at Queens Avenue and Talbot Street. She was taken to hospital with a fractured scapula and ribs, and a collapsed lung.
The officer was travelling in the lane beside the dedicated bus lane when he attempted to turn right into a parking lot entrance and collided with the bus. Director Joseph Martino found the officer’s indiscretion was not sufficient to lay a charge of dangerous driving as he drove the speed limit, used his turn signal, and was not sharply or abruptly entering the bus lane when the collision occurred. He considered it a momentary lapse of attention that fell short of a marked departure from a reasonable standard of care.

- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
