No Basis to Charge Officers in Relation to London Arrest

Case Number: 26-OCI-086

Mississauga, ON (22 June, 2026) ---
On February 21, 2026, a stolen vehicle was involved in a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Dundas Street and Egerton Street. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot to a residential area nearby, and hid in a backyard shed. A police dog unit was deployed to the area and eventually tracked the 36-year-old man to the shed. An officer called out to the man but there was no response.  The officer eventually opened the door to the shed and told the man to show his hands.  When the man, lying on the ground, failed to do so, there was a struggle. Additional officers arrived on scene and joined the arrest process. Following further use of force, the man was arrested. At hospital, he was diagnosed with a broken nose and three fractured right ribs. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injuries.
