SIU Concludes Investigation into Brampton Collision Between Bicycle and Police Cruiser

Case Number: 25-OVI-240

Mississauga, ON (7 October, 2025) ---
Just after noon of June 12, 2025, a 67-year-old man was riding his bicycle westward on the south sidewalk of Queen Street approaching a green light at the road’s intersection with the Highway 410 off-ramp. He had just entered the crosswalk when the back end of his bicycle was struck by a Peel Regional Police cruiser turning right from the off-ramp onto eastbound Queen Street. The impact sent the man tumbling from his bike onto the roadway, striking his head on the pavement in the process. The officer promptly exited his cruiser, tended to the man and arranged for an ambulance. At hospital, the man was diagnosed with a brain bleed and neck fracture. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the collision.
