SIU Concludes Investigation into Toronto Police Cruiser Collision

Case Number: 25-TVI-092

Mississauga, ON (26 June, 2025) ---
The Special Investigations Unit found no reasonable grounds to believe a Toronto Police Service officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the fractured nose suffered by a 56-year-old woman involved in a collision. On March 8, 2025, the officer collided with the driver of a Lincoln Aviator while it made a left-hand turn onto Danforth Avenue. The woman was in the front passenger seat of the Aviator.

While the officer was travelling 40 m/h over the speed limit, Director Joseph Martino found he was entitled to as he was travelling to a serious call for service involving a recent assault. He further stated the officer lights and siren were operating, giving advance notice to motorists and pedestrians. In summary, Director Martino concluded the evidence indicated the collision had more to do with the driver’s failure to make a left-turn in safety than any speed on the part of the officer.
