SIU Investigating Fatal Vehicle Collision in Madoc

Mississauga, ON (28 April, 2025) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal vehicle collision last night in Madoc.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • On the night of April 27, 2025, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was driving eastbound on Highway 7 in Madoc when he observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. This same vehicle had been reported to police as driving dangerously.
  • The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle.
  • A short time later, in the area of Highway 7 and St. Lawrence Street West, the officer came across a collision between the vehicle of interest and a motorcycle.
  • The 57-year-old motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any serious injuries.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
