SIU Investigating Man’s Fatal Fall from Mississauga Condo

Mississauga, ON (30 July, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating following the fatal fall of a 35-year-old man in Mississauga yesterday. As Peel Regional Police officers were present at the time of the man’s death, the SIU was notified and invoked its mandate.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At about 10 a.m. on July 29, 2026, Peel Regional Police officers responded to a call for a man in distress at a condo building on Kingsbridge Garden Circle in the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Hurontario Street.
  • Officers entered the man’s unit and attempted to negotiate.
  • The man fell from a high floor to the ground below. The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The postmortem is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
