Mississauga, ON (1 April, 2026) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 51-year-old man last night in Toronto.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 7 p.m. on March 31, 2026, the Peel Regional Police Service became concerned for a man’s well-being after he made threats of harming himself.
  • By tracking the man’s phone, police determined the man was in Toronto. As a result, the Toronto Police Service was notified.
  • Officers were able to narrow the man’s location to a condominium located at The Queensway and Windermere Avenue.
  • With the assistance of the complex management, officers were successful in obtaining key access to a unit. Upon gaining entry into the unit, officers communicated with the man.
  • A short time later, the man fell from the unit’s balcony to the ground below.
  • Emergency medical services responded and live saving measures were attempted. However, the man succumbed to his injuries.

Two investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. The post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow. One subject official and eight witness officials have been designated.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
