SIU Concludes Investigation into Toronto Arrest of Man
Case Number: 24-TCI-354
In the morning of August 24, 2024, Toronto Police Service officers attended a parking lot that was reportedly the location of a stolen flatbed truck. In the area, officers observed an SUV of interest. An officer followed the SUV and bumped its rear with the front of his cruiser. The SUV driver didn’t stop. A short distance away, as the roadway ended in a cul-de-sac, the officer struck the SUV again. The SUV spun and the officer struck it again, this time on the passenger side. The vehicles came to a stop and the 43-year-old driver was arrested. At hospital, he was diagnosed with a broken nose. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
