Mississauga, ON (16 April, 2025) ---
The Special Investigations Unit is seeking witnesses in an effort to identify a man who appeared to jump into Niagara Falls last night.

Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 9:13 p.m. on April 15, 2025, Niagara Parks Police received a call about a man on the edge of Horseshoe Falls near the Table Rock Welcome Centre. A police officer immediately responded and attempted to communicate with him. A short time later, the man entered the Falls. The SIU is investigating as a police officer was present at the time of the incident.
  • The man is presumed deceased. The man’s body has not yet been located or identified.
  • Civilians were in the area at the time and may have cellphone video, so SIU investigators are hoping to speak to them in an effort to identify the individual and contact his family.
  • The person is described as a Black male, between 30 and 40 years of age, wearing a dark-coloured toque and clothing, and a backpack.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php

All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
