Update: Man Shot by Police Officer in Unionville has Passed Away

Case Number: 25-OFD-237

Mississauga, ON (13 June, 2025) ---
The province’s Special Investigations Unit commenced an investigation earlier this week into a police-involved shooting in Unionville. This morning, the 34-year-old man involved in the interaction with police passed away in hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 4:45 a.m. on June 11, 2025, a resident of a condominium complex on 278 Buchanan Drive contacted police to report hearing a dispute coming from another unit. York Regional Police officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arriving at the unit, the officers heard sounds of a disturbance from inside. Officers entered the unit, and a short time later, one officer discharged his firearm one time. A man was struck.
The man, and a woman who was located inside the unit, were transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The SIU’s investigation continues. A police-issued firearm and a knife were recovered from the scene. One subject official and three witness officials have been designated. The woman who was located in the unit remains in hospital in stable condition.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
