SIU Concludes Toronto Investigation into Teenager’s Arrest by York Regional Police Officers

Case Number: 25-OCI-241

Mississauga, ON (11 October, 2025) ---
At about midnight of June 13, 2025, York Regional Police (YRP) received a 911 call about a carjacking of a BMW in Thornhill. Members of the YRP Hold-up Unit became engaged in attempting to locate the BMW and a Honda that was reportedly connected to the carjacking. Police located the Honda. In the area of Lynnbrook Drive and Stoneton Drive in Toronto, the three occupants of the Honda exited and fled. One of the occupants, a 17-year-old male, was on the front yard of a residence when he was tackled to the ground. Following his arrest, the teenager was transported to hospital and diagnosed with a broken right lower jaw. On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the teenager’s arrest and injury.
