SIU Investigating after Civilian Vehicle and Police Vehicle Involved in Collision in Thunder Bay
No Charges to Issue in Relation to Thunder Bay Collision between Police and Civilian Vehicle
- Dans la matinée du 11 juin 2019, deux agents de police, à bord d’un véhicule de police banalisé, se dirigeaient vers le nord sur Gulf Links Road.
- Vers 11 h 45, la voiture de police est entrée en collision avec un véhicule civil qui sortait du Centre régional des sciences de la santé de Thunder Bay.
- Le conducteur du véhicule civil, un homme de 75 ans, a été blessé; il a été transporté à l’hôpital. L’agent qui était le passager du véhicule de police a également été conduit à l’hôpital pour le traitement de blessures graves.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (municipal, regional and provincial police officers, police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
