SIU Investigating Fatal Police-involved Shooting in Tecumseh
No Criminal Wrongdoing Found in Relation to Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Tecumseh
- Le 14 juin 2019, vers 22 h 15, des agents de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario se sont rendus à une résidence, à Tecumseh, en réponse à un appel concernant un homme en détresse.
- À l’intérieur du logement, il y a eu une interaction entre l’homme et les agents. Un des agents a fait feu et l’homme a été touché.
- L’homme a été transporté à l’hôpital, où son décès a été prononcé.
- Au cours de l’altercation, trois agents de police ont été blessés et ont été transportés à l’hôpital. Les trois sont sortis de l’hôpital depuis lors.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
- publicly report the results of its investigations
