No Charges to Issues Against Officer in Relation to Collison near Creemore

Mississauga, ON (18 October, 2019) ---
In the evening of November 25, 2018, a Pontiac G5 sedan was involved in a collision with an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser in the area of County Road 42 and Side Road 3 & 4 Nottawasaga. Three occupants from the Pontiac, as well as the police officer, were transported to hospital for treatment. The Interim Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has determined there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the officer in relation to the serious injuries sustained by the 75-year-old male driver of the Pontiac.

The SIU is an independent civilian agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence  in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
  • report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
