SIU Seeking Assistance to Identify Cyclist Who was Killed in a Collision in King Township

Mississauga, ON (24 July, 2020) ---
This morning, a man was riding a bicycle in King Township when he was struck by a vehicle in the area of Keele Street and Cavell Avenue. Prior to the collision, the vehicle that struck the man was being investigated by a York Regional Police officer. The cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

SIU investigators are appealing to the community for assistance to identify the cyclist. The man – believed to be in his 40s to 50s – was wearing black shoes, a blue helmet and cycling clothing with black, grey, white and green. He was riding a red Specialized Tarmac bike.


The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, or anyone who can help identify the cyclist, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials (police officers as well as special constables with the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service) that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. All investigations are conducted by SIU investigators who are civilians. Under the Special Investigations Unit Act, the Director of the SIU must

  • consider whether the official has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
  • depending on the evidence, cause a criminal charge to be laid against the official where grounds exist for doing so, or close the file without any charges being laid
  • publicly report the results of its investigations
